Stalker shoots at 19-yr-old on way to work in Manesar | India News

GURGAON: A 19-year-old woman working with an electronics manufacturing company in Manesar was shot at by an alleged stalker, who studied with her in Class 10 and had been following her from the time she lived in Ghaziabad eight months ago.
The woman, Radhika Sharma, is getting treated for a gunshot wound between her shoulder and neck at the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. Doctors said her condition was stable. The accused, 21-year-old Abhay Sharma, is on the run.
An ITI diploma holder, Radhika had shifted to a PG facility in Bashkushla village of Gurgaon from her home in Ghaziabad’s Pratap Vihar about eight months ago to work at the electronics manufacturing company.
Abhay, a resident of Modinagar in Ghaziabad, was her classmate in Class 10. “He had been stalking her for two to three years. She said she had hoped he would stop following her when she moved out of Ghaziabad, but that didn’t happen,” a senior police officer said in Gurgaon.
According to the police, the incident took place around 8.50am on Saturday, when Radhika was walking to her office in Sector 8 of Manesar.
Abhay, on his motorcycle, intercepted her and tried to talk. After she refused and started to walk away, he pointed a gun to her neck from the back, and opened fire as she cried for help, police said.
“Abhay left his bike there. A few metres ahead, he stole another motorcycle at gunpoint and fled the spot,” the officer said. Passersby took Radhika to a hospital, he added.
Gurgaon police spokesperson Subhash Boken said prima facie, it appeared that the accused was aware of Radhika’s routine and had come prepared for the crime.
In her statement to the police, Radhika said: “He stopped me and tried to talk. I refused to talk and started to leave when he placed a gun on my neck and fired with the intention to kill.”
The 19-year-old’s father, Satish Sharma, said Abhay had been stalking his daughter for years and he had taken up the issue with his family back in Ghaziabad. “We had asked them to tell Abhay to stop following her. He should be punished,” Satish said.
An FIR against Abhay has been registered at IMT Manesar police station under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) and provisions of the Arms Act.
“We are trying to track the accused. He will be arrested soon,” the police spokesperson said.
