Scots holidaymakers queue outside Edinburgh Airport in ‘chaotic scenes’

Scots passengers have been left fuming after facing lengthy queues in the cold outside Edinburgh Airpor t.

Early morning travellers described the scenes as ‘chaotic’ as more than one hundred holidaymakers stood outside clutching their suitcases on Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said busy periods were expected in summer months but staff had worked “incredibly hard” to get passengers through.

But many fuming travellers took to Twitter to complain about the service and lack of signage.

One wrote: “@EDI_Airport…no signage or direction for people arriving at airport -late comers pushing in at front , despite 3 loop queues inside, before then queuing 2 loops outside, as well to get back in!

“Needs staff at more queue points + at door (and other entry point).”

Another added: “Sat on the plane for an hour not moving due to baggage issues & security time meaning people missed the flight & the subsequent unloading of baggage.

“Absolutely fuming, air travel shouldn’t be this f****ng annoying imo.

“Fair play to KLM for all being ready but the staff at Edinburgh Airport have just absolutely s**t the bed. With a large queue for security at 3:45am & now this. It’s just a sham an a complete piss take.”

While one person wrote: “You’re having a laugh @EDI_Airport – these security queues are ridiculous.

“Double lines to the tram stop. No signage, very few staff, confusion on flow times. This is summer – but 40 mins in a queue outside?

They later added: “@EDI_Airport and now the captain is sitting with a plane of really hacked off passengers awaiting other passengers who are stuck in what he describes as a ‘chaotic terminal’.

“This is not cool. I would not be on this flight without FastTrack and I arrived at 5am with cabin bag.”

An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson said: “Queues are expected in busy environments like airports and more likely in busy periods like summer.

“This morning queues were outside for a short time and staff worked incredibly hard to get passengers through security as quickly as possible – we thank passengers for their patience and for working with us.

“Passengers should ensure they are prepared for their trip by having the correct documentation and being ready for security, and they can also help by showing up for their check-in desk opening rather than arriving too early as this causes congestion.

“The whole UK industry is experiencing challenges and is doing what it can to respond.”
