Anti-social behaviour officers on patrol raised the alarm after a man was slashed by his friend in Blantyre.
Robert McKain was jailed for three years when he appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
The 26-year-old admitted stabbing his friend repeatedly on the head at a flat in Elm Street on June 8 last year whilst on bail.

Jennifer Cunningham, prosecuting, said the men were with two females that night.
She told the court: “The accused and victim had a disagreement. The accused went into the kitchen and returned to the living room with a knife.
“He slashed the victim repeatedly across the head.
“Two council anti-social behaviour officers were on patrol, checking domestic noise, and they heard shouting and swearing coming from the flat.
“They contacted the police and when officers arrived they found the victim sitting on a couch, his head covered in blood.
“The living room was in a state of disarray, with glass on the floor, cushions strewn around and the TV knocked over and damaged.
“The victim claimed he had been sleeping when someone burst in and slashed him.”
The fiscal said the victim refused to provide a formal statement, but CCTV linked McKain to the scene .
The victim had four stitches put in a wound to his forehead.
Lawyer John McGeechan said the defence position was that the victim had the knife initially. McKain had taken it from him but “gone too far with it”.
Sheriff Andrew McIntyre told McKain: “A deterrent is needed because the consequences of a knife assault can be very serious.
“Your retaliation was grossly disproportionate.
“You don’t have a serious record for violence, but have been convicted of all manner of other crimes.”
The three-year sentence was backdated to June 14 as McKain has been in custody since his arrest.
