Independent parcel carrier Yodel has announced it is recruiting for more than 3,000 seasonal roles across the UK, including 2,500 couriers and 600 warehouse roles ahead of the peak Black Friday and Christmas shopping periods.
These new positions offer a flexible working environment, with couriers able to fit deliveries around their existing schedules. There is also the potential for temporary positions to become permanent in the long term.
Yodel expects to process up to 53% more parcels over the next three months as consumers increase their spending ahead of the festive season. The parcel carrier has already seen significant growth in its parcel volumes this year, supported by numerous new contract wins and renewals with some of the UK’s largest retailers, as well as strong growth in its consumer-to-consumer deliveries, with volumes up 200% over the last two years.
To meet this demand, the company has continued to invest heavily in its network and infrastructure, including a brand new 15,000 sq m depot in Huyton, doubling Yodel’s capacity in the North West. The company also continues to invest millions of pounds in its fleet.
This latest recruitment drive follows Yodel’s new partnership with Onsi Pay, which will provide greater financial flexibility for new couriers joining the company. The collaboration will allow couriers to access a portion of their earnings the following day, without having to wait for their pay cycle to end. Users can access up to £200 per withdrawal, with the money transferred into their account within minutes.
The initiative offers greater financial freedom and transparency, giving riders greater control over their money and the ability to track their estimated daily earnings via the Onsi app. The Next Day Pay benefit is in addition to the daily spend discounts and fuel card packages that Yodel offers through its partnerships with Retail Trust and the Hapi app.
Mike Hancox, CEO of Yodel, said: “As we enter the busiest time of year for retailers, we are expanding our workforce to meet the surge in demand for parcel deliveries as the e-commerce market continues to strengthen. We are committed to supporting our courier network and offering a range of competitive benefits, and our partnership with Onsi Pay will ensure we continue to lead the industry on this front.”
We have already seen high sign-up rates among new employees and are exploring a broader rollout of the platform to existing colleagues in the near future.”
Anthony Beilin, CEO and co-founder of Onsi, said: “Yodel is one of the UK’s largest parcel carriers and we look forward to expanding their competitive range of benefits packages with this offering. Onsi Pay will help thousands of couriers across the UK by giving them more options and greater control over their finances.”
