A seven-bedroom, 9,653-square-foot mansion on a 1.77-acre Lake Michigan property in Winnetka is set to go on sale for $16 million.
Built in 2020 by builder Scott Lyon & Co. and designed by architect Paul Konstant, the mansion sits on the site of a mansion built in 1991 for the late philanthropists Ann and Robert Lurie. It is unclear whether the current mansion is actually a major rehabilitation of the 1991 mansion, or whether the previous one was demolished and a new one built. Listing agent Cricket King declined to comment on the listing.
The mansion has eight full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, an elevator, an athletic field, a theater, a golf simulator, a large game room, a heated three-car garage, a large screened porch and several patios. The property also has an attached guest house and approximately 90 feet of Lake Michigan frontage.
In a message sent to more than 100 local real estate agents on Nov. 6, King said she would “soon” list the mansion for sale in the agents’ private listings network. She also provided a link to photos.
Through a land trust, owners Luke and Maggie Kelly paid $6.187 million in 2017 to purchase the property from former Corus Bank CEO Robert Glickman, who purchased the property in 1997 for $5. 5 million dollars.
The Cook County Assessor’s Office gives the property a fair market value of $9.8 million.
The mansion had a property tax bill of $227,196 for the 2023 tax year.
This listing is the latest in a string of high asking prices in Winnetka, where what is surely the most expensive home in the area is being built by Justin Ishbia, with a combined land cost and construction cost estimated at $77.7 million. In addition to the Kelly mansion, retired investment banker Muneer Satter’s lakefront mansion is on the market for $35 million. And a seven-bedroom, 15,784-square-foot mansion on Lake Michigan is for sale for $18 million.
