Kirill Kaprizov is off to a fantastic start for the Minnesota Wild. He has 21 points in 11 games, including four three-pointers, and had a streak of seven multiple games and 18 main points for the Wild. Talk about the definition of being an MVP.
NHL Rumors: Minnesota Wild and Kirill Kaprizov
As NHLRumors.com has documented, the Minnesota Wild will pay him whatever they want to keep him. But what if it hits the open market? So what?
Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period was on TSN Radio in Montrealand a conversation was had about Kirill Kaprizov’s future in Minnesota, whether he could hit the open market and whether it would make sense for Montreal to go after him.
Transcripts from NHLRumors.com
Host: “Now, tomorrow (Tuesday), Dave will see the Calgary Flames at the Bell Centre, then the Canadiens will hit the road again, and they will be in Minnesota on Thursday. What do you think the future holds for Kirill Kaprizov?
NHL Injuries: Bruins, Avs, Kings, Islanders, Sharks, Blues, Maple Leafs and Capitals
Dave Pagnotta: “A few dozen Brinks trucks arrive at his house. »
Host: “Can I tell you the scenario of my dream? »
Bread: “Yeah.”
Announcer: “Because he’s going to be an unrestricted free agent, right? »
Pagnotta: “In a few summers. »
Announcer: “They made it known to Minnesota, they said, basically, we have the ability to make them more money than any other team, right? And they have that luxury with the extra year on the contract. But what if I paint you a dream scenario?
Demidov arrived, a Russian player, no other Russian in Montreal, and we know what Gordon was able to do in New York, the different situation in New York, but they brought in Panarin. Can Kaprizov be Gordon’s Panarin in Montreal?
Pagnotta: “It’s a delicate question. Only because, only because we know everything Wild owner Craig Leopold is going to throw at him. As if he continues like this. Now I’m not waiting for it either. He’s at, what, two points per game. It will probably go down a bit. He probably won’t reach 170 points.
I don’t know. I would take the underside, yeah, personally. But it’s definitely on track to eclipse the 100, 110, and 120 range. The way it rides, I can definitely see it. And at 27, he’s basically in there, in that prime window.
NHL Rumors: Minnesota Wild vs. Montreal Canadiens
I mean, if he hits the open market, for me, if he doesn’t sign an extension next summer, then he’ll be a prime target for other teams down the road. In terms of targeting, if I’m Montreal, I’m absolutely chasing this guy. I don’t think he will succeed.
But like this summer, this couple or this, this offseason coming up, you have two guys right now in Mikko Rantanen And Mitch Marner who, barring an in-season extension or something like that in June, that they’re going to hit the market, that a lot of teams are focusing on us, circling around as prime targets.
It will be the same situation with Kaprizov. And if he continues to play this way, he will earn more than both of those guys on an annual basis. »
Is this dream scenario coming true? No, that’s probably not the case. But would it shock you if Kiril Kaprizov was paid like one of the five best players in the league? Absolutely not.
