Yaremchuk: “Well, on that note, let’s talk about one of the defensemen who is on the market and could be moving soon, Frank. How close are we to a resolution in the case of David Jiricek? »
Seravalli: “Oh, I think it’s relatively close, that’s what I would call it. I think there’s definitely been an increased amount of attention paid to David Jiricek in the front offices, based on who I’ve corresponded with.
NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues Are Retooling, Not Rebuilding
The best way I can describe this situation right now is that I believe the general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets Don Waddell has five to six concrete offers on the table that he is evaluating.
I think they were relatively close to a deal, you know, at one point this weekend. I think they made significant progress on Monday, to the point where some thought a deal might be reached, or maybe it was close to getting to the finish line.
But I know that with a young player of this stature, Don Waddel and his team want to make sure they leave no stone unturned in the league. And it’s been an interesting process, because there are a number of teams that have wanted to get into the mix that, frankly, either I’m told, haven’t gotten a call back or they’ve been politely told, you know, just, “Hey. , we don’t think this is a solution. We don’t think you have the parts we are looking for.
So what exactly are the Columbus Blue Jackets looking for? It’s a player of similar stature, you know, a young high-end pick or prospect, or potentially a group of players that can, that can excite the Columbus Blue Jackets and their fans. We’re talking about the sixth overall pick from just two years ago, David Jiricek will soon be 21 years old.
Right now, it seems like it’s a question of when, not if Jiricek will leave. But which teams are we talking about and which have been present in recent days?
There seems to be a lot of thinking about the Minnesota Wild being one of the favorites for Jiricek at this point. I’m not really sure what this package would look like. I think the Philadelphia Flyers were involved. I think at different times the Pittsburgh Penguins have done this as well. Kyle Dubas, I believe, traveled to see David Jiricek play on Sunday. That’s the kind of three teams I would rotate around.

But I don’t think you can rule out the San Jose Sharks or potentially the Buffalo Sabres. I think there’s a whole group of teams that have been in the mix.
