A patient at Meadows Psychiatric Center was arrested Wednesday for an assault that state police in Rockview say sent at least two workers to the hospital.

Devan A. Shambo, 29, of New York, was accused of punching three workers in the face Wednesday as staff members grabbed and attempted to “forcibly administer” medications, police wrote in a court affidavit. probable cause. He had refused to take the medication orally.

All three injured workers reported facial redness and swelling, as well as suspected concussion, police wrote. At least two of them were treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Shambo admitted to hitting the trio, but said he did it in self-defense because he didn’t want to take medication, police wrote.

He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, three misdemeanor counts of simple assault and three summary counts of harassment. No defense attorney was listed and the Center County Public Defender’s Office said he had not been assigned to represent him as of Thursday afternoon.

Shambo was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Gregory Koehle and failed to post his $25,000 bond. He is incarcerated at the Center County Correctional Center.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 30.
