KUALA LUMPUR: More than 122,000 people forced to leave their homes Massive floods caused by incessant rains swept across Malaysia’s northern statesdisaster officials said on Saturday (November 30).
That number topped 118,000 people displaced during one of the country’s worst floods in 2014, and disaster officials feared it could rise further as torrential downpours have not subsided.
The death toll remained at four in Kelantan, Terengganu and Sarawak.
Kelantan was worst hit by the floods, accounting for 63 percent of the 122,631 people displaced, according to data from the National Disaster Management Agency.
Nearly 35,000 people were evacuated in Terengganu, with the remainder reported from seven other states.
Heavy rains, which began earlier this week, continued to lash the town of Pasir Puteh in Kelantan, where people could be seen walking through streets flooded with water up to their hips.
