Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott will to be inactive for Sunday’s match for disciplinary reasons, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
Exactly what Elliott did to warrant a benching has not been revealed.
Elliott did not travel to Atlanta for the Cowboys’ Week 9 game against the Falcons. Running back Dalvin Cook, who started the season on the team’s practice squad before being brought up last weekwill be part of the main roster for the second week in a row. Cook will share the backfield with Rico Dowdle, who missed last week’s game due to illness.
In seven games this season, Elliott, 29, has 149 rushing yards and two touchdowns. His absence for this week’s game marks the first time he will be a healthy scratch in an offseason finale situation in his nine-season NFL career.
The Cowboys currently rank last in the NFL in total rushing yards (519) and tied for last in rushing touchdowns (3).
Elliott is in his eighth season with the Cowboys and second tenure in Dallas after spending the 2023 season with the New England Patriots.
