President Biden told reporters Thursday, “You all have a really tough job,” especially with “the extremely small number of people watching mainstream television and reading newspapers.”
At the Thanksgiving photo op at the Nantucket, Mass., fire department, he cited a recent study that showed only 35 percent of respondents were satisfied with the direction the country was heading.
“This is not a criticism of the press,” Biden continued. “(But) when you turn on the TV you don’t see a lot of good news, even good news doesn’t seem to sell very well. And so when you turn on the television, everything looks bad. All!”
He added: “And now you have to deal with the extremely small number of people watching mainstream television and reading newspapers” and that “the numbers are falling.”
Like more and more people receive their news from social networks or other non-traditional sources, Biden expressed concern about the accuracy and origin of the information. “Where do you get your news?” And how do you know if what you’re getting isn’t just what you’re looking for or what’s actually happening? »
He then spoke about the transition of power to President-elect Donald Trump, saying, “I want to make sure that this transition goes smoothly,” indirectly referring to Trump’s stated plans to enact mass deportations and add customs duties on imported goods. “All this talk about what he’s going to do, I think there’s maybe a little bit of internal thinking on his part… So that remains to be seen,” he said.
