“Pachinko” Showrunner Soo Hugh Introduces Asian Pacific Story Incubator

Soo Hugh is bringing Min Jin Lees work to the screen with her tv adaptation of “Pachinko,” set to premiere in March. The initiative was initially announced last year, when Hugh inked an overall deal with UCP.
” I would enjoy to see people apply to this program who were like me, who had no concept how to even take that very first action,” said Hugh, who remained in advertising and marketing prior to making the switch to television. “Weve produced a program that is information-focused to expose individuals who dont have that front-row seat yet to how the industry works. If we can just teach that primary step from all these other people who have done it, they can find out what course they want to take.”
The principles of Television writing and the company will be covered through panels and lectures by authors, execs, supervisors, agents, and other market figures. Three of those principles will be chosen for a paid 24-week pilot script development laboratory, which will include assistance from Hugh and her group and basic conferences with representatives and producers.
” The goal is three shows made,” Hugh explained, highlighting the importance of compensating the laboratory participants. “We wanted to choose a few projects we really believe in and provide those writers a platform to state, I am a paid author. The key is to deal with all 3 tasks like genuine studio tasks.”
Hughs television writing and producing credits consist of “The Terror,” “See,” and “Under the Dome.” “Pachinko,” on which she acts as showrunner, debuts March 25 on Apple TV+. Likewise among the tasks on her slate are writing the new “Flight of the Navigators” for Disney and producing an Amazon pic penned by Lynn Nottage.
