1520 – Fernando Magellan, the navigator enters the Pacific Ocean after successfully navigating the Strait which bears his name.

1810 . The first regulation of the Cortes of Cadiz is created.
1871 – Spanish colonial authorities execute eight medical students in La Habana who were accused of defiling the grave of the Spanish journalist, Gonzalo Castañón. The youngest was just 16 years old.
1885 – Sagasta sworn in as president of the Board at the Regent Queen Maria Cristina of Habsburg-Lorraine.
1907 – In Madrid, the Spanish congress apporved a law to reconstuct the Armada.
1912 – A treaty is signed between Spain and France, creating a Spanish protectorate in Northern Morocco.
1931 – Niceto Alcala Zamora was elected member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Language.
1983: -an Avianca Boeing 747 crashes while coming in to land at Madrid Barajas. It came down in Mejorada del Campo, killing 181 passengers. Only 11 people survived.
1984 – the Brussels Declaration is signed between Spain and Britain, preparing the way for talks on sovereignty of Gibraltar and the lifting of Spanish restrictions.
